chrysler 45 hp year?

is their anyone out their that can tell me how to find out what year my motor is ident tag was gone when I bought it. the only thing I noticed was the thermostat has 3 bolts . I was told it was a 1976. it also has a wb 16 d carb
 
Look on the stbd. side of the head.
Or under the bottom cowling.
Both places might have a foundry stamp.
In the center, circle of the stamp should be the year.
Like kim said not a lot of changes in the 70's models.

what about the 3 bolt cover no the thermostat. does that help with the date? I am having trouble with the shifting in reverse . when I changed the oil in lower unit I removed the shifter pin by mistake .was wandering if it missed the second hole when I reinstalled it. and that is what could be causeing the shifting problem? I adjusted the cable and it helped ,but I am wandering if it is possible to miss the second hole ?
 
If you removed the pin???
Then you might have to take it apart??
If you just took it out and didn't move anything and the pin went right back in????
Then it should work.
But it shouldn't need and adjustments if it went right back in??
