Which motor?

I have an old (1950) Monk Bridgedeck Cruiser (approx. 20,000 lbs.). I am looking for an outboard motor as an emergency power source to get back home, or to the nearest port, in case of main engine failure. Additionally, I am planning on building a 13' fast dinghy as a tender. Any ideas on an outboard that would best suit both purposes? Thanks in advance for your opinion.

The tender can probably use the 9.8, but that would barely move the big boat, and then probably only with the HT 5 pitch prop.

Thanks, Paul for the reply. I think I'll go for a 15-20hp, which will be at the upper range of the dinghy capacity, and, in a pinch, might get me out of trouble if the main engine fails. It sounds like I should consider the HT 5 pitch prop.

The 15 is a de-tuned 20, so get the 20, as long as the tender can handle the motor. The HT prop for the 20 is a 7 pitch, but probably way too low for the tender; you would want to get the HT prop as a spare, and install it if needed as an aux for the big boat.
