Borg Warner 1.91:1 spinning in neutral

I have some prop spin when in neutral on my Crusader 454's with a Borg Warner gear....

2 questions...

1) Should I just live with it?? It barely moves the boat and I navigate fine in this condition.... or is the fix fairly simple??

2) While on the hard, I plan to run COLD water over the Cutlass Bearing while I winterize it... How long is to long to let it run dry?? I assume ANY running dry is bad.... Yes?? Is there a safe way to stop the spinning while winterizing her??

Thanks for ANY help anyone can provide??

most likely, its due to warped clutch plates...the proper repair requires the gear to be removed and disassembled....not what falls into the 'simple' category.

you can live with it as long as you are comfortable with it.

As far as the cutlass bearing goes, they are designed to be submerged. you could just disconnect the shaft for winterization; it will eliminate any damage. alternatives would be to lock down the shaft or to remove the prop (safety first) and use dishwasher detergent on the bearing...
