Ok, I'm just going to admit it. I removed the shift pivot pin on my 1972 Johnson 9.5 and cant seem to get it to go back in.

Is there any simple way to get the pin reinserted?

Thanks for any suggestions!

A very small light, a small pick and plenty of patience. Move the shift rod around when trying to reassemble. PATIENCE !!!!.

Update - I was able to use the light, pick and patience method to reinsert the pin. Afterwards, I was able to start and test shifting in both directions successfully. What a relief!

Thanks for the suggestions!

Folks made that mistake 40 years ago.------It will still be made years from now.------------And yes you were lucky to get it back in.----------Perhaps you do not realize how easy it is to take the bottom skeg off to make sure it is all correct.--------Very easy lower units to work on.----Much easier than some newer units !
