Hi i have a mid to late 70s model Mercury 500 thunderbolt 50hp 4cyl.
I am unsure of exactly what year as i cant seem to find my serial number in any of the serial searches.
The number is 8049265.

I am also currently trying to find a replacement fuel pump as the motor is stalling, unless i am continuously squeezing the primer.
The pumps are hard to find so im wondering, if i lose all hope, can i replace it with an aftermarket fuel pump of some sort?

HEEELLLPPP :(:(:(

Does the primer bulb stay firm after priming but before starting? It will soften when engine is running.Needing to keep pumping the primer to keep the motor running is usually an indication that the fuel pump diaphragm is weak.Pull it and have a look for pinholes.
If you are getting fuel and there are no fuel leaks,I'd leave the carbs until absolutely necessary
