'82 Merc 18hp pull cord

First post! I have an '82 18hp I just picked up. I've had no issues starting it up to 10 minutes ago, when they required a couple extra post to get going and on the last one the pull cord came out completely. Is this something I can fix easily? Is it just a matter of getting access to the fly wheel and reattaching it?

Did the rope break or just hang there if it broke you don't need to change the spring if its hanging you need to change the spring. The cover on top of the flywheel is the recoil starter. Take off the 3 bolts and the throttle safety and see whats up.
 
Thanks. The rope looks like it broke at the recoil unit. I'll have to track down a ratchet and socket set later this morning and I'll see what kind of damage I can do.
