Force 50 start problems

Hi,
I got a force last yeay, and it had a 50 hp on it.
Ran good.Twards fall,it died a couple of times.

This year it starts hard usually, but once i get it running,it runs, but doesnt seem to be as fast.
Heres the deal............

I start it and go about 5 mph around the lake.Runs fine slow..Top speed though droped i believe.

No biggy, but when i shut it off,it wont re start.Kinda tries, but it wont re start.Runs good as I went around the whole lake. Its just when i shut if off,it wont re start.

Checked the coils, and i have spark.Replaced the squeeze bulb, and drained the gas bowl just in case it had water in it.

Wondering if timing has something to do with it?
How do i time it?
I see the sticker with the timing mark on it,but on my 85 force,it had a screw under the fly wheel.Cant seem to find it on this one.

That one i just road timed, and found the sweet spot luckily lol.
So how do i set the timing,or where is the screw on this 50 force so i can move it a little, and see if that makes a difference?

Any ideas what else to check? I bought a compression checker, but havent tried it yet, just in case....
And what would be the compression i need to be at on it? 120 lbs or somewheres aroung that?
Thanks,
Much appreciated on any feed back.

The year would help?
Some have points some don't?????

Compression: 145# But,the gauge might read differently than mine.
The results should be within 2-5# of each other.

Comp ok? Then check the fuel system.
Clean carb.
Change the hoses and connectors and squeezie.
Add a filter between the carb and the pump.
Walmart G2 or G12 depending on hose size.

Oh,sorry.Yes its a 1989 bayliner,and force motor.
I replaced the hose and squeege bulb.
Great to know for compression, thanks :)

So mabe this has points hu?
That could be the problem.I never thought of that.

I guess i would have to take off the fly wheel hu?
Good idea on the fuel filter too :)

IF??? The motors an 89 it doesn't have points.

Outboardignition.com has test procedures for that motor.

The pack goes to 2 coils. Top coil/ top plug.

Do the compression test and post the results.

Both plugs out.
Hot battery.
10# ain't that bad.
A de-carb might help?
The timing, usually doesn't move unless you change something??
Like the trigger or stator.
But then it doesn't move that much.

You say spark on both?

If there is spark? Then.
Time to start on the fuel system.
The fuel pump diaphragm check it and make sure there are no holes or it's not stretched too far out of shape.
Clean the carb.

Ok on that. Will see today if i can take out the diaphram and check for holes.Thats not too hard to do :)
Yes,spark on both,so not the coils.
Will squirt some carb cleaner in it as well.
I will let you know on that later this afternoon :)
Many thanks Jerry.
