gear shift reversed after putting in new water pump

put in new water pump on 35hp. 1985 to go forward I have to pull throttle shift lever back, reverse is in the forward position wondering how to get it switched back.
 
The shift shaft in the LU was out of position when you stabbed the LU back up. Drop it again, rotate the shifter cam all the way CCW, to take the slack out of it, then put it together again (with everything in Forward).
