1985 Evinrude 8hp accelerates too quick at one point of throttle movement

It is either an E8rCOB or e8rlcob and I am pretty sure it is the first one.

I replaced the roller cam with a new one.

When the throttle is about 3/4 open, it runs a little rough at that point but when opened it a little more it jumps to a much faster speed. It runs smoothly except when transitioning.

What would cause this? Thanks.
 
I oiled the roller which wasn't turning and the throttle cable which helped. The roller is on the cam at lowest throttle setting. It starts out ok but is hard to keep going during the last 1/4" of movement.I have a timing light for a car but thought this would be easier first.
