Hi.
I purchased a perfectly running evinrude BE4BREDS outboard. However it is continuously in gear. Once the gearbox was dismantled i found the clutch spring broken and the shift rod bush and O ring missing. I purchased the new items and assembled as per online exploded drawings ( no oil added yet). However on attempting a dry test the bush came off the shift rod when put in and out gear and when in neutral, the shift rod was right up against the spring lip and therefore tightening up on the prop shaft rather than let it run freely. What am i doing wrong??? Does anybody have any suggestions. I have searched online for more explicit drawings but to no avail. I am now at my wits end! Please help!
