Yamnar 4LHA-DTP black smoke around 2200rpm

Hello All,
Hoping to get a little advice.
I am running a 25ft boat with two Yanmar 4LHA-DTP engines. The other day when I was out it was apparent that when the port engine rpm increased to approx 2200 rpm thick black exhaust smoke appeared. when rpm reduced to 700 (idle) smoking ceased. max engine rpm is 3300. however on subsequent rpm increases above 2200 black smoke did not appear every time, but most of the time. From my experience with other marine diesels this is a symptom of a sticky turbocharger? Has anyone experienced this on a yanmar? The boat has had little use for the last month or so so I am thinking maybe a bit of carbon making it stick. Any advice on how to clean / repair the problem would be greatly appreciated. many thanks as always..........
