System check tach not working

I have a 07 e-tec with faria system check tach. Last season tach stopped working. Now lights nor alarm come on at start up. Any ideas on how to determine if it is the tach or something else?
 
Pull the plug on rear of tach and see if you have voltage between purple and black on connector with key on. If so tach is bad. If its the digtal send it to Faria and they will repair it for about $125. If its the analog just buy a new one.
 
Well, it can only be two things. Bad tach, OR bad power to the tach. Power and ground connections must be tested first.
