I've got an old steel fuel tank that's in pretty good shape. I believe kerosine was stored in it. I have sucked out what was left (about 4-5 ounces) using a wet vac. How can I make sure it is clean with no small debris? Should I use an inline fuel filter? I don't want to fowl my carb that I just rebuilt.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I did not replace fuel lines. I did replace the screen and gasket in the fuel pump as well as the gasket where the fuel pump mounts to the motor. I will check on the dip tube, do I pull the part off the tank that has the gauge and fuel line connection to access the tube?

Thanks for helping!

Yes, it's an assembly and come out together. If the gasket looks bad replace it otherwise reuse it.

I had the guy at the boat place tell me that using the old steel tank with todays (ethanol) was a waste of time since the ethanol causes little pieces of rust, etc. to get into the fuel and clog up the carb.
