350 MPI 5.7 with Bravo 3 - steering arm -thru transom - water ?

Just noticed something that I don't recall seeing - or really looking at before. Not sure if it's right or not.

2003 350 5.7 MPI with Bravo 3 - where the steering mechanism goes from the engine, through the transom and attaches - to I assume the gimbal ring… I saw a small amount of water in that cutout through the transom - not a lot but seemingly to pool when the boat went up and down with the wave action while anchoring.

Is that normal ?

No, the seal has a leak and caused by no grease fitting in that area, If you do the repairs add the grease fitting
 
That's what I was afraid of. This is all part of the bigger project I'm starting to realize has to be done - R/R of the gimbal ring. In your opinion, do you think a few more months in the brine will have a negative effective on other parts not meant to get salt water on them ?
