Suzuki 6 hp Four Stroke reverse lock won't engage.

My 6 hp jumps out of the water whenever I put it into reverse. How do I adjust the locking mechanism that is suppose to drop when put in reverse? Also, it has trouble idling near the start/choke mark. It is a new engine.
