I have a problem: My tilt doesn't work on my 1985 OMCStern Drive and I've checked it right down from the switch, through theelectrical system to the worm gear and everything seems to be workingfine. When I pull out the worm WHEEL (found at the side of theclutch pack on the left of the stern drive) about 1/4 of an inch the legmoves freely up and down and the worm WHEEL turns with it. Pushingthe worm wheel back in locks the leg in place and the problemstarts again.
I had assumed that the worm GEAR holds the leg in place when not turning andthe clutch only works if something is hit to allow the leg to tilt up and avoiddamage but I guess it works every time the tilt motor is engaged... Does anyoneknow if I should be looking for a problem (maybe a seized part) within theclutch mechanism or somewhere else? Has anyone had this problem?
