I just acquired a used boat that won't start. It has a 79 Mercruiser 228 in it. It had old gas in it so I drained the fuel, put an inline fuel filter, new fuel lines, new water separator and rebuilt the Quadrajet Carb.
New battery, new terminals, new plugs, new wires, new cap and rotor button.
Engine struggles to turn over when the distributor is connected to the coil.
Unplug to coil wire and the engine turns over faster.
What could cause this?
