New Temp sending unit

I just replaced my temperature sending unit on my volvo 8.1 and it now reads at the gauge again, only thing is it reads higher then the normal 175. It reads about 185 to 190, and it stays steady there.
So my question is do I need a new gauge or can it be calibrated? Thanks

I recently found out VDO gauges require a sender matched to the gauge. The old one was reading 195* on a 250* gauge, steady temp, 160* stat. The new sender reads 140* - 160* with the same stat, which mimics the readings on an IR gun. Don't know about your gauge, but shooting the motor with an IR gun should tell you what's happening between the sender and gauge ...

When I said 'match the 'ender to the gauge', with VDO that means basically matching the sender to the high temp shown on the gauge. Mine was 250* with a blade connector, don't know what to use for any other gauge make, but I'm not sure they are universal ...

There will be both single station and dual station senders for each brand temp gauge.
The temp gauge itself is the same regardless of single or dual station.
Make sure that your sender is correct for either single or dual station.

Likewise with oil pressure senders.
