I have a 1987 Mercruiser 3.0L. After a long Massachusetts winter, it started right up and it's been running great for 10 days on that six-month old gasoline. The fuel gauge got down to about 5 gallons, and I added 10 gallons of regular unleaded today (from a big-name oil company). Now it won't start. It squirts gasoline in the carb when I pump the throttle. When I crank it the engine starts for about 1 - 2 seconds and then immediately dies. I cleaned the fuel inlet filter in the carb (it did contain sediment) but still got the same results.
Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this? There is a Water Separating Fuel filter and I think another filter in the fuel pump. I figure it's a clogged filter, the fuel pump, or bad gas (?) If it is bad gas would the engine start for that 1 second? Thanks!
