Suzuki 175hp mid-unit repair

The bushings on my mid-unit are badly worn and I would like to replace them. Must the power head be removed to do this? It looks like I could drop the lower unit and replae the bushings. My engines have 3000 hours on them and there is a noticeable gap at the pivot point on the bottom of the shaft.

Generally, yes, the powerhead does need to come off. Here is a video I did cleaning the bushings on a MUCH smaller engine, but the principle is generally the same: https://youtu.be/dJpw9IJ9H1U I've also done this job on a Yamaha 50HP four stroke and it also had bolts connecting the mid section that were under the power head. You also need to lift the lower cowling off etc.
