I'm replacing an impeller on my 1996 Evinrude 2 stroke 8 hp and noticed the drive shaft has a lot of vertical play. I'm afraid to test the limits as I don't want to cause a bigger issue for myself. Is this normal? Should I be able to feel as though I can slide the drive shaft right out of the lower unit?
