Boat does not move in forward or reverse

Hello all, I am new to this sight. I have a problem with my boat not moving in forward or reverse. My boat is a 1988 Lund Sportcabin 21 footer with a 305 chevy power plant. the outdrive is a OMC. The other day I was out on the bay, the motor run great. But it would would not move no matter if I put the shift selector in forward or reverse.The cable from the selector back to the motor seem to be moving good. I hope some of the members here can help me. Thanks all.
 
There's another cable that goes from the engine to the drive. That one is the one that does the actual shifting. May be broken or popped out of the bell crank. It's held in place with only a cotter pin. If the 5 cent cotter pin fails the cross pin on the cable can work its way out and then you got nuttin.
