1985 force 85 horse interchangeable trim and tilt units

hey guys brand spankin new to this site and I'm a force motor owner alright so my motor is a 1985 force 85 horsepower I just purchased a parts motor 89 force motor 85 horse my question is will the trim and tilt unit work on my 85 85 horsepower from the 89 just got the motor today for a hundred bucks the guy got it from said the motor worked and he limped it back to the boat dock and he thinks it either as a bad coil or a bad cylinder he's not sure about boat motors he doesn't know nothing about it but I know my 85 85 horsepower runs great I'm just tired of the manual tilt

First thing I'd do is a compression and a spark test on the new motor.
It might be something simple.
The changing the trim from one to another isn't an easy job.
You'll need to post some pics of both mid sections.
Doesn't mater if it's on the boat or not.

If there is no spark? Then go to: outboard ignition . com
They have test procedures.
Sometimes the wires from the trigger breaks under the shrink wrap and it looks good but isn't.
