BF50 Tachometer is dead

The tachometer on my pontoon boat console has failed. The engine is a BF50 . I'm looking for help in troubleshooting this cct . Firstly I do not know what / where the speed pick up is or located . Secondly any help in troubleshoot procedure will be greatly appreciated.
>voltage expected at tacho lugs ?

Thanks

Check if your charging is working. Often that problem can be a bad charging coil under the flywheel. I have replaced several of them on our BF50's.

Tach is working now . this showed up on the first start of the season ( northern Ontario). Battery was dead and required a charge. My charger is a " smart " version .It sees a dead battery as a fault condition. I connected a spare battery in parallel to fool the charger . after a full charge (13.7 v) the tach did not respond. second day tach works fine .

It may just be a bad connection somewhere. If you tach has a rotating switch on the back of it, note the setting, then rotate it back and forth to clean the contacts. That is a good place to start.
