Hi there

I just got an older 14 foot crestliner, tilt trailer w/ rollers and Gale 40HP MODEL 40DE - 17B It was my friends grandfathers and looks in good condition for age. I was wondering if anyone could help me find information on it? or have any history with them? I found a manual for a large year range , but it was 300 pages, is there a smaller one? Will also need parts access. I need a new skeg or one welded on because on the way home i chipped it backing it up into the driveway. And could someone tell me the spark plugs I need? there was none in it but it turns over and my friend said he had it running last year with a spark problem on one of the cylinders. So I might need coils etc..... Anyone used this motor? I was going to buy a new motor but thought id try this one out. And if my friend can't find the key for ignition is that okay?

few pictures there before i cleaned it with degreaser

Thanks a lot

Andrew

Thanks!

This is the ignition, my friend can't seem to find the key, do you know the size of this one or number of positions? I pulled up the number it has engraved in it in and it came back to omc johnson keys. Think I might just order a new one with 2 keys if possible but there is a bunch of different ones on online sites for sale.

Thanks

Was at an antique outboard meet last saturday.----Guy there had just about every KF key on a chain.---------Most dealers had those keys on hand so make some calls

It does have electric choke. My friend had it working last year just can't find the key. The first one you sent me came to 17 bucks shipped so I just ordered that to give a try and then I guess ill swap the switch out if it doesn't work. sucks I have to wait almost 2 weeks for it to arrive hopefully my friend finds his.

The ignition switch stops the engine by connecting the 2 wee black wires that go under the flywheel.-----------So if you disconnect one of those wires the motor will start with the recoil starter.

Thanks guys, jeez I remember ya's from years ago helping me out.

Today I got a starter battery, jc4 champion plugs, ignition; the new one was different so i kind of got worried but took lots of pictures and first try it started, pretty amazing. It purrs fine. Just need to figure out how the electric choke, and throttle cables work. I'll have pictures later of that but I was pretty pumped its running fine. starting and stopping fine.

I've attached pictures of two different cables , the first one I know is throttle and I know kinda where it sits on that bracket but not sure how to tighten that wheel or how to fit it in its little aluminum holder thing.

The second one Im not quite sure, choke, shift linkage? Its kind of camouflaged in the picture but I'm holding it right infront (the white to spring thingy)

Can anyone explain or show a picture how to connect? I'm done for the day working on it but will be back at er tomorrow.

Thanks
