I have a 85 Evinrude 70 Horsepower I bout today, it has a bad trim motor. I am wanting to run it on my boat and make sure its ok before I buy a new trim motor. I opened the screw on the right side and got it to drop down from tilt, but it stopped at the trim rams and wont go any further. How do I get it to drop down all the way ?

Remove the snap ring that holds in the manual release valve and then remove the valve. You may have a mess tho'.

Yes, you will have a mess as fluid will be shooting out that manual release valve hole.

And if in the water.... of course water will be entering the PTT unit.

hey guys, thanks for the replies, the boat is currently on dry land so no worries about oil in the water or vice versa, I had fluid coming out of my manual release when i screwed it out some, but once it got to the trim rams, it wont go down any further.

I have not taken it all the way out yet, I was wanting to make sure that nothing is going to come flying out an get lost. So is there anything that will fly out at me ?
