4.3 GM Vortec oil sending unit/hole in block

My oil sending unit seems to have rotted off and needs replacing . however I notice a hole on the block sort of above the area of the sending unit . Should that have some sort of plugin it?

Ayuh,..... I believe you'll find that to be a blind hole, nothin' there,...

That's where the bell crank pivot ball threads in for the clutch linkage in an old automotive application...... Not an issue in a boat.
