My 60hp bigfoot engine won't shift into gear 2012

Engine shifting problems can come from a number of places. Can you tell us a bit more about the symptoms? Will it go into forward and not reverse? No gear at all? Have you inspected all the linkages? Is it forward controls? If you take the gearbox off and directly manipulate the selector does it go into gear?

I haven't gone that far yet we just bought the boat and I thought I would at least drop it in the water and run it to see how well it goes, and it started to act up right away and then it started to engage fine so I thought I would continue to run it. It was in storage for about 6 months
