sounds like bearing noise from upper shaft of 05 air cooled 2 hp

don't hear it when it's in the water but do when running dry and engage clutch.
Is this normal?
Anyone dealt with this problem? I hear you can use an automotive bearing.
Any tips or insight would be much appreciated :cool:

thanks for the reply, it doesn't make the noise when it is running without the prop engaged at idle, and I didn't notice it while using it in the water. But I ran it for the first time dry and when you get up passed low RPMs it start to whine
 
Thanks for the info, I don't know the history of the engine but I see some rust on some of the carb plates.
Hey you wouldn't happen to know where I can down load a free repair manual in PDF ?
