can a 290 sp Petrol drive bolt to a Diesel engine

Hi all
need some help here about if a volvo Penta 290 sp out drive and a transom sheild that was off a 171c 4 cylinder would work on a AD41B 6 cylinder Diesel engine. :confused::confused::confused:
 
Yes that's right sp for single prop
the leg that's on it now I have a reverse problem and it's due for a good look at and its always in water.
So why I have this other really good condition one I was hoping it will work
correct me if I'm wrong but I can just change the lower gear box for the correct ratio
im not able to check for a few days but when I do I will get all the numbers off both drives and go from there

Reverse , Forward, neutral is not in the lower unit,shifting is done in the upper gear box.
You are correct- the ratio is in the lower unit .
Possibly you could use your lower unit, that has the correct ratio on the other 290 you have.
If your original lower unit is in good shape.

and yes all the shifting is done in the upper box that's the one I need to work on
the lower gear on the boat with the correct ratio is in good shape
