My 1983 evinrude 235 trlcts idle great but wont go wot and wont come up on plane even with throttle in wide open position. Carbs have been rebuilt, exhaust bypass valves gaskets and covers replaced. Can find no leaks but it acts like its sucking air. I replaced fuel lines also. It runs great at low rpm and at idle just wont go fast. Any suggestions or ideas?

??????--------What do you mean by an " exhaust bypass valve "------Report the results of a compression test.

The exhaust plates and gaskets on the engine were leaking. The compression checked out good on all 6. That was done by a tech.

Do you gave spark on all six leads ?

Do a cylinder drop test on it and see if you find any dead cylinders.

I will have to buy a timing light to check fire, I guess. I had another tech check cylenders last fall. All appeared good.

All you need is an insulated pliers to do a cylinder drop test.
