Install electric fuel pump

Hey Guys,

I want to install a new electric the right way. My boat originally had a mechanical fuel pump but it was removed and welded shut before i bought the boat. Right now the electric fuel pump is wired to a switch on my dash. I want to remove it from my dash and wire it through a oil pressure safety switch. Can you guys help me figure out what parts i would need and how to wire it properly?

Thanks,
-Joe

Joe, you'll need a N/O low oil pressure switch and a relay switch.
The N/O low oil pressure switch will close the loop via the relay.
The relay will allow one of two start-up methods prior to oil pressure:

1...... a start-by-pass circuit fed by the starter motor's solenoid circuit.
2...... a momentary helm switch.... but must it be momentary!

Once oil pressure is achieved, the fuel pump circuit will remain live.
If oil pressure is lost, this circuit dies.

HI Ricardo,

is there a way to wire it so there is no switch? i just want to be able to put the key in and start the engine.

Ayuh,.... The purple wires on yer motor should be switched ignition,....

Go from the purple wire through the O/P switch, to the fuel pump,....
The pump will only have Power, when there's oil pressure,...

To prime the carb while startin',....
The outboard tiny terminal on the starter should be a purple wire/ yellow stripe,....
Run that also to the fuel pump,....
It's 12v Power, only when the starter is engaged,...

Your schematic shows powering the fuel pump from the ignition source.
I prefer to see the ignition circuit undisturbed.

In this schematic, the power is independant from the ignition source.
The relay provides momentary power during cranking, and it prevents any starter motor feed back.
The N/O oil pressure switch carries the fuel pump load once engine oil pressure is achieved.
