2012 mariner 40 2st gearbox lube leaking from behind prop

Hi,
when I drained the shaft lube and refilled the new oil immediately began seeping out behind the prop.
I s there a seal back there that I need to replace???
Thanks.

Yes, and it can be done without disassembling the LU.

Drill a small hole in the metal shell of the seal, screw a sheet metal screw into that hole, and pull gently--sometimes two screws at once are required (with a gentle pull on one then the other).

The new seal can be tapped into place with an appropriate piece of pipe.

Hi Jeff,
The model no. is 704G253LX and se no. OT502795. The site says the serial no. is not recognised??????
Thanks,
Seán

O.K I now have two seals which i am told are necessary to solve the problem. However my (Clymer) manual describes removing the prop and various bits of the hub assembly but does not mention any seals???
