Hello,

I have 2 Johnson Outboards, one is a Johnson 33hp RX13B (http://212.47.219.162/dynamic/pimg/f/9/f9fb43c167a5f1cfe43dba10ed2c3948.jpg)
The other one is a 1978 35hp model (http://www.boatracingfacts.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=40441&stc=1&d=1291483228)

I dont know which one to keep, the 33hp or the 35hp model. The 33hp model is in a very good condition and runs very good.
The 35hp had some cooling issues (should be fixed), but now it runs.

The 35hp is newer then the 33hp, but the compression is not SO good as the 33hp model has.
It seems that the 33hp weights much more than the 35hp model, does anyone has the info, how much weights the 33hp model and the 35hp model?
The 35hp model is currently attached to the boat and it is pretty much work, to remove it from there, to just weight it :D

The 33hp model is much older and maybe its easyer to find parts for the 35hp models? Which motor should be more reliable?

This is a pretty silly question, but i dont know which one i should keep. The 33hp has not been installed to my boat, so i dont know, how fast it is comparing to the 35hp model.

The 33 is listed at ~ 130 lbs.--------The 35 is listed at ~120 lbs.-------The 33 hp motor is very simple to repair and maintain.------It may in fact be easier / cheaper to find parts for the 33 hp motor.

The '78 35hp has one drawback, that being the cooling water intake locaton, which results in cooked motors if running in weedy waters. If it were the newer model with the plastic inlets on the sides of the gearcase, it would be my pick. But given the choice here, I would go for the 33hp. It is an oldie but goody design. Not very efficient, but tough as heck

Depends on the boat. On mine (14' aluminum), my 1984 35 is somewhat faster. I attribute that to the better shape of the gearcase. My guess would be that on a heavier boat the 33 might be about equal (but I haven't made a direct comparison, like I have on my 14')

These where hp rated at the crankshaft, the 33 will only be about 25 hp at prop and the 35 will be closer to 30hp. The 35 will use less fuel and will be a little faster
