bf20d6sha water impeller change

Hello fellas. My buddy has a 2006 bf20 and wants to change the impeller. I've done my bigger motor many times. I keep seeing where people say detach the shift rod. I've even got a good print out off this site but on his 2006 I can't find the rod visible anywhere. If someone could shed some light I would really appreciate it. Thanks
 
Is there not a rod at the front of the midsection ?--------Long nut and a lock nut.-------Carefull with that so you do not loose the shift adjustment.
