1997 mercury 115 starter problem

I have a problem that maybe someone could help me with, I have a mercury 115 hp 1997 and it has a new starter on it but recently it has started acting up. when I turn the key they is a hesitation before the starter kicks in. maybe a second or 2 . cant figure if it is the bendix or maybe something else. acts like it doesn't get power for a second or 2. any ideals on what to check? once it starts turning over its ok till I release the key, if I hit key again it still does it. thanks for any responces. cz

So, when you turn the key to the start position, nothing happens for a cupla seconds, or does the starter motor activate, but just not engage the flywheel?

nothing happens for a second the bendix doesn't kick up. just a short hesitateion

Hmmm, that's strange. Try cleaning all connections on the starter circuit ( take the connections apart and clean them).
