Johnson 115 V4 Identification

adanament

New member
Hi,

I have a Johnson 115 V4 motor, no identification on freeze plug or decal on transom.
Most parts are "vintage" and therefore replacements are available.
ie 510694 Rectifier
583104 Stator
583127 Timer Base
321690-2 Thermostat housing
582125 CD4

Is there any part that would help point to exactly what year engine I have.
I am guessing around 1983-1985

I am not 100% sure which spark plugs this engine uses till I know the year.

Thank you in advance,

Hi Racerone,
Please see attached images:
What engines had the 'bulge' above the thermostat housing?
What engine uses a 3 wire Rectifier (510694)
Although this engine is badged 115 it came from a Marine Boating Store here in Australia and may be even a Johnson 140
The reason I say that is the part number 325596 is stamped on the intake manifold and Ebay has one for a Johnson 140

Thank you

The graphics indicate that it is a 92 /93 model.-------------This engine was marketed for a while ( 77 to 84 ) as a 140 power head power.-------------later years it was marketed as 115 propshaft power !!!-------------They did not market this model as a 140 in 92 /93.------And please do not use E-Bay listings to get your knowledge !!

Hi Racerone,
Point taken about Ebay.
To breakdown the model there is:
Country=A
Manufacturer=J
Horsepower=115
PowerTilt&Trim=T
Length=unsure
Year=ET (1993)

Where do I measure length.

Thank you

Hi Racerone,

Is there somewhere on the net where I can cross reference Vintage part numbers.
I still dont know what model or size engine I have even though the cover displays Johnson 115 V4
Some part numbers I have found replacements but other part numbers dont exist.
Flywheel 582442 replaced by 0582442
Stator 0583104 replaced by 0583672
Timer Base 0583127 replaced by 0583376
Intake Manifold 325590 no replacement or non existant
Rectifier 510694 no replacement or non existant

The length of the motor is 20" I have found out

All I want to do is find out what model it is so I can purchase the correct spark plugs be they Champion or NGK
This engine doesn't fire on the bottom 2 cylinders after replacing the CD4 power packs, coils which leaves the spark plugs next although they have been moved around. (I suspect plugs because of resistance readings)

Any pointers would be appreciated even if it is "get rid of the old piece of junk"

Thank you

???-------This is basically a 1992 / 93 model 100 cubic inch crossflow engine rated / marketed as 115 propshaft horsepower.-------Does spark jump a gap of 7/16" on all 4 leads , yes or no ?--------Or when you pull the bottom leads off there is no change in sound ??--------Could be a carburetor problem as well if bottom cylinders get no fuel.--------These are a very good / simple and reliable motor if properly maintained.
