Oil Drain Plug Size

Hi Guys... Can anyone please tell me what size drain plug (thread) on my 2000 5.0 MC Ser # 0m012817

I have read that Mercruiser changed to metric at some point.

according to that serial number its M12 x 1.75

I have used that type of valve on cars, and they work well and are durable. But you would need to be able to get a drain pan under the engine, and then reach under the engine to operate the lever, which may be hard in a boat. An oil change pump that draws out the oil through the dipstick tube works well: http://www.defender.com/product3.jsp?path=-1|311|2349109|2349116&id=2582406

I have a remote drain installed that is very similar to this one. Simply push it through the water drain hole in the transom and direct the oil flow into a pan. No pump, no fuss, no mess.
