1989 454ci starts,runs 5 sec. then dies. choke or starved for fuel?

My 1989 454 starboard engine will start and I can rev it but dies after 5-7 seconds. It will not restart until after about an hour,then it's the same again. It is fuel related but I can't determine if it's flooded or starved for fuel. I'm going to start with a new filter.
Any help would be appreciated.
 
Might be a defective oil pressure switch that's cutting the pump off (assuming it's electric). If so, you can TEMPORARILY jump the contacts to see.

inspect the exhaust - visually and with your nose....rich conditions are pretty easy to recognize...are you positive there are no ignition issues?
