1989 454ci starts,runs 5 sec. then dies. choke or starved for fuel?

My 1989 454 starboard engine will start and I can rev it but dies after 5-7 seconds. It will not restart until after about an hour,then it's the same again. It is fuel related but I can't determine if it's flooded or starved for fuel. I'm going to start with a new filter.
Any help would be appreciated. Sorry for the duplicate post.

Ayuh,.... Electric fuel pump, or mechanical,..??

Will it restart if ya pour abit of gasoline down the throat of the carb,..??
 
Odd that the problem takes only 6 seconds, but an hour to resolve itself. Ilm not thinking fuel, but ignition. Ignitor or even the coil.
