Hi,
my Honda is difficult to get going when cold, it seems auto choke not working.
Once warm it runs perfectly so if anyone can indicate how to fix I would appreciate it.
Thanks.

You may be right, the "bystarter" (item 13 in the link below) pintle could be stuck in the "lean" position. The device is defaulted to enrich the carb when cold and then should go lean as an electrical current flows through it and heats an element after the engine is started. The heated element pushes the pintle down to block the enrichment passage after about 60 seconds of heating.

To see if the pintle is stuck, simply remove the screw that secures the "plate" (item 14) that holds the bystarter down. Take the plate off and then pull up on the bystarter and it will come out. Then try starting the engine and see if it starts any easier. If it does, then it will begin running too rich as the engine warms and will begin sputtering. That would indicate that you need a new bystarter.

If there is no change to the way the engine starts and runs cold, then the problem is likely in the enrichment passage.

Possibly a spider web or dead fly or something in there preventing proper operation when cold. If that's the case, then a carb clean out may be necessary.

You could try "fishing" a small piece of copper wire strand in there to see if you can "snag" anything but be careful about trying to blow air or probing too vigorously in there as you could push any debris down further and get it permanently stuck.

Good luck.
