Help !!!! Coil overheating

COIL OVERHEATING ON 5.7 PCM SEAMAXX HO, After 30 to 45 mins,coil gets hot & kills engine,so put in a spare & starts right up & CAN RUN BOUT ANOTHER 30 MINS OR SO.CHECKED FOR SHORTS CAN FIND ANY. ANY IDEAS !!!!!!!! NO FUN IN 5 TO 6 FT SEAS ITS IN A SHAMROCK BOAT, THANKS FOR ANY HELP
 
What type of ignition system?
Is the coil correct for the triggering system?

All triggering systems use a prescribed dwell angle for coil saturation.
An excessive dwell angle can over-saturate an ignition coil and may cause over-heating.


Would you mind not using all CAPS?

If your running points I bet the ballast resistor is bad or you have the wrong coil

what ignition do you have? Screw down distributor cap or clamp?
