Any help here would be fantastic. Just purchased a boat with a 1988 35hp Merc on it. When it first starts it seems ok, but then I go to shift and it dies. It seems to idle in neutral ok if I leave it in the start position or rev up from there but as soon as I turn down to shift it'll either die or it'll bog out when accelerating. The pump ball stays hard during all of this. I also use the choke, if im quick enough, to keep it going at low rpm. Once it's going it goes perfectly across the lake but then coming down it starts to sneeze and run a little rough. I've heard "dirty carb" and whatnot, just want to nail it down before I buy tons of parts. Thanks in advance!
