18 hp 1965 evinrude Cam Ring

I bet that's it... I thought they were the same... I bought one from our local hardware store... Thank you sooooo much.. Ill let ya know how it turns out...

A flywheel that has been destroyed by over tightening the nut (read impact wrench) will break the cam. Overtightening spreads the hub, and the flywheel then goes down too far, mashing the cam between it and the step on the crankshaft. If that has happened, the flywheel is junk.

CORRECT torque on the nut is 40-45 foot pounds.

Oh yeah, another thing: The flywheel and shaft tapers must be clean and dry before installing and torqueing. NO grease or oil!!!!! Either will spread the hub just like over torque.
