Honda BF5 corrosion

Hello,


my 8 year-old Honda BF5 engine shows deep corrosion next to the spark plug. This engine is used in salt water, but lifted from the water after each use.

How should this be treated?

Considering the location, I think you may have a bigger issue. I would check the spark plug wire for moisture or a split in the wire housing. To clean the existing corrosion, try using NAPA anti-corrosion fluid, it is composed of chemicals that won't ruing gaskets, rubber, etc. Flushing your engine with fresh water after being in salt water is key to preventing serious corrosion elsewhere.
