Honda 50hp vs 45hp

Aside from the obvious difference of 5hp, are these motors basically the same ?
would the 5hp drop be noticeable on a 16' runabout ?
 
I do not think you are going to see much difference on a 16 ft boat. As long as you prop it correctly, it should do a good job for you.

You probably already know that the 45 was the predecessor of the 50.....and was only made for about 5 years until the 50 was introduced.

It is a combination of carburetion and head. The head is the same as used in the 35 and 40. Without looking any closer, most likely the cam is the major difference......
