Mercury 40 ELPTO max speed problem [VIDEO] + [PICS]

Hi

I have a shetland family four (535 cm * 590 kg) with the outboard in subject (oil and sparks are new)

The problem is that at max power the max speed that I can reach is only 8 knots

the progression of the remote throttle lever is very strange because:
- until 50% of the lever motion the boat is at min speed, 3 knots (no speed change from 0% to 50% of the lever motion)
- at 60% the speed is twice (6 knots)
- From 60% to 100% of the lever motion I gain only 2 knots (max speed 8 knots)

another problem (but I not know if relatet) is that the idle throttle in the remote control is not working.

Agreed. See if you can borrow a prop with a LOT less pitch and try it out. Many Merc dealers will allow that IF you 'promise' to buy the right prop from them later.

I agree that your boat is underpowered, but that's not the problem. If you look at the picture showing WOT, you can clearly see that the throttle plate arm is not opening all the way. You have an adjustment problem, either with the remote throttle cable, or the throttle/spark advance system itself.
