need help starter not working

hello I have a1986 mariner 50 hp outboard, the engine runs great. I bought a new starter for it and installed it. but everytime I turn the key it just clicks. There is a purple wire that's not connected to anything that I cant figure out where it goes.

think the purple wire is for the kill switch

if the solenoid just clicks is it bad

1st thing clean the wire connections,then test the solenoid

I cleaned every wire on that motor lol I tested the starter and solenoid and both get 12.6 the starter is brand new but I read that if the solenoid is just clicking it could be bad. I took the solenoid apart and there was copper color dust inside.

go onto you tube and ytpe in solenoid testing,easy to do,with an amp meter

take all the wires of it and test it for resistance

You need an ohm meter to test resistance and a quick and easy to test the solenoid is jump the two large posts with a screwdriver and if it turns the starter then solenoid bad.
Purple wire is usually a 12v+ feed for instrument panel,kill circuit is black/yellow stripe unless you have a Yamaha built Mariner.
