Help identify this component...

Can anyone tell me what this is and what it does?

That is your PITOT pick up, it is for your speedometer.........

Oh ok, This picture is from another boat, but on my boat, half of that entire component is missing and that explains why my speedometer doesnt work..

That part is readily available at any boat store.

The tube, if it is plastic, heat it gently with a hair dryer (GENTLY) and pull it off the barbed fitting. If it is rubber tubing then just pull it off.

Remove the three screws from the transom and throw the old away.

When istalling the new one put a dime size amount of Clear RTV silicone on the mounting surface of the transom and make sure some goes into the screw holes. Install the new, tighten the screws tight but not to tight, wipe any excess RTV away.

Install the tube back onto the new barbed fitting. Do not heat it first. just install. If it is loose, then cut only a small amount away and push it on.

Ok Great.. Doesnt sound like too hard of a task. I will post some feedback once I'm complete.
