rochester quad carburetor has leaking lugs

I removed the carburetor and coated the lugs with marine tex (white) and it helped so it would start but then it did not last, I removed the carb again and tried J B weld and that did not last as long as the marine tex, does anybody have any information about another procedure to stop the loss of fuel so it will start without priming, is the marine tex (grey) better than the white?
